Daarnaast is voor de beschrijving aan bijdragen aan natuurdoelen, vooral van belang op welke wijze het tussenliggend gebied wordt ingericht. In de beschrijving is opgenomen dat bij kustgebieden het gebied kan worden ingericht als natuur, of dat er mogelijk sprake is van aquacultuur. Voor binnenlandse wateren er zijn verschillende opties, zoals het cre\u00ebren van graslanden, bossen of moerasgebieden . Hier is een parallel te trekken met de maatregel Waterberging, waarin water tijdelijk wordt opgeslagen om overstromingen te voorkomen. Er is geen afbakening van watertype en het landgebruik bij de dubbele dijk. Daarnaast is het gevoerde peilbeheer in de de dubbele dijk essentieel voor welke natuurwinst mogelijk is. De natuurwinst is voor deze maatregel niet te kwantificeren vanwege de vele mogelijkheden; bijvoorbeeld, het cre\u00ebren van een moerasgebied kan leiden tot een toename van watervogels, terwijl een grasland kan de insectenbiodiversiteit verhogen. Er zjin tal van mogelijkheden.
