Strategically removing water control devices to reintroduce tidal dynamics can enhance the function of the overall system by bringing oxygen-rich water into previously stagnant locations and reducing methane emissions. Tidal flows can contribute to enhanced nutrient circulation, and with it, habitat growth and regeneration. Reconnected waterways can enable tidal dynamics at multiple scales, from localized changes through channel deepening and coastal nourishing projects to large scale coastal watershed dynamics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This concept contributes to the restoration of the estuarine ecosystem.
