These projects demonstrate what it means to partner with nature and deliver engineering solutions with a diversity of economic, environmental and social benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engineering With Nature (EWN) is the intentional alignment of natural and engineering processes to efficiently and sustainably deliver economic, environmental, and social benefits through collaborative processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atlas 2 covers beaches and dunes, wetlands, islands, reefs, riverine systems, floodplains, use of vegetation and natural materials and the environmental enhancement of infrastructure. In this edition, EcoShape projects Marker Wadden and the Clay Ripener are featured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marker Wadden is a unique nature restoration project using excess fine sediment to construct natural islands and restore the ecosystem and has never been implemented on such a large scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Clay Ripening pilot experiments with different ways of transforming sediment into clay soil to increase water quality and biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in Atlas 2: <a href=\"https:\/\/ewn.el.erdc.dren.mil\/atlasv2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/ewn.el.erdc.dren.mil\/atlasv2.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April 7th the Engineering with Nature Atlas 2 was published by the US Army Corps of Engineers and showcases EWN principles and practices in action through illustrations and descriptions of 62 projects from around the world.
