Kabinet investeert 110 miljoen euro in kennis- en innovatieprogramma NL2120<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Groen licht voor omvangrijk onderzoek naar nature-based oplossingen<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Het Kabinet maakt vandaag bekend 110 miljoen euro te investeren in NL2120, waarvan 40 miljoen voorwaardelijk. In dit kennisprogramma werken overheden, natuurorganisaties, ingenieursbureaus, baggerbedrijven en kennis- en beroepsinstellingen <\/strong>samen aan nature-based <\/em>oplossingen voor <\/strong>grote uitdagingen op het gebied van klimaat, natuurinclusieve landbouw, biodiversiteit en wonen. NL2120, dat wordt gefinancierd via het Nationaal Groeifonds, is wereldwijd het grootste samenwerkingsverband op het gebied van nature-based oplossingen. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Hekman, voorzitter van NL2120: \u201c<\/strong>Nederland is kampioen maakbaarheid. We hebben het landschap naar onze hand gezet met kustbescherming van staal en beton en we verlagen het waterpeil om land bruikbaar te maken. Maar technische oplossingen hebben een grens. Met dit kennisprogramma focussen we op nature based oplossingen, die aansluiten bij de natuurlijke kenmerken van het water- en bodemsysteem. Ze werken daardoor beter voor behoud van biodiversiteit en zijn beter bestand tegen klimaatverandering.<\/em>\u201d Kennis- en innovatieprogramma NL2120 heeft een looptijd van 10 jaar en gaat naar verwachting een cumulatieve groei van het Nederlandse BBP van 1 miljard euro opleveren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hekman: \u201cWij gaan de kennis en inzichten die dit programma oplevert niet alleen in eigen land toepassen, maar ook exporteren. Naast een klimaatbestendige inrichting van Nederland vergroot het kennisprogramma daarmee ook het verdienvermogen van ons land. Uitdagingen van deltasteden en bodemdalingsgebieden zijn immers mondiaal en beperken zich niet tot Nederland.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wereldwijde groei<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Nature-based oplossingen zijn de laatste jaren onderdeel geworden van internationale verdragen, zoals de Europese Green Deal en het Global biodiversity framework van de Verenigde Naties. Bekende voorbeelden in Nederland zijn kustversterking met zand en stadsparken voor wateropvang en verkoeling. De markt voor nature-based oplossingen groeit razendsnel. Zo neemt besteding vanuit internationale klimaatfondsen naar verwachting toe tot 700 tot 800 miljard euro in 2050. Het kennisprogramma richt zich onder andere op bodemdalingsgebieden. In Friesland gaat het consortium experimenteren in een innovatiepolder van 105 hectare waar het waterpeil wordt verhoogd. Het doel is om de bodemdaling en de grote hoeveelheid broeikasgassen die hierbij vrijkomen af te remmen. Het is een voorbeeld van concrete oplossingen die moeten leiden tot nieuwe, toekomstbestendige en economisch rendabele vormen van landgebruik. In de regio Rotterdam-Dordrecht lopen er pilots met getijdeparken, waarbij harde oevers zijn vervangen door geleidelijk aflopende groene oevers. De invloed van eb en vloed keert daarbij terug, wat bijdraagt aan biodiversiteit. Een andere focus is de toename van groen in de stad, wat de leefbaarheid vergroot en hittestress vermindert op warme dagen. Het zijn stuk voor stuk voorbeelden van natuurlijke oplossingen voor concrete uitdagingen, die \u00e9cht het verschil kunnen maken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dutch government invests 110 million euros in knowledge and innovation program NL2120<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Green light for extensive research into Nature-based Solutions<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Dutch government announced today that it will invest 110 million euros in NL2120, of which 40 million are conditional. In this knowledge programme, governments, nature organisations, engineering firms, dredging companies and knowledge and professional institutions work together on nature-based solutions for major challenges in the areas of climate, nature-inclusive agriculture, biodiversity and housing. NL2120, which is financed through the National Growth Fund, is one of the largest partnerships in the world in the field of nature-based solutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Hekman, chairman of NL2120: \u201cThe Netherlands is the champion of manufacturability. We have shaped the landscape to our advantage with coastal protection of steel and concrete and we are lowering the water level to make land usable. But technical solutions have their limits. With this knowledge programme, we focus on Nature-based Solutions that match the natural characteristics of the water and soil system. As a result, they work better for conserving biodiversity and are more resistant to climate change.\u201d Knowledge and innovation program NL2120 has a term of 10 years and is expected to generate a cumulative growth of Dutch GDP of 1 billion euros. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hekman: \u201cWe will not only apply the knowledge and insights generated by this program in our own country, but also export it. In addition to climate-proofing the Netherlands, the knowledge program also increases our country’s earning capacity. After all, the challenges of delta cities and subsidence areas are global and are not limited to the Netherlands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, Nature-based Solutions have become part of international treaties, such as the European Green Deal and the United Nations Global Biodiversity Framework. Well-known examples in the Netherlands are coastal reinforcement with sand, and city parks for water collection and cooling. The market for Nature-based Solutions is growing rapidly. For example, expenditure from international climate funds is expected to increase to 700 to 800 billion euros in 2050. The knowledge program focuses, among other things, on subsidence areas. In Friesland, the consortium will be experimenting in a 105-hectare innovation polder where the water level will be raised. The aim is to slow down subsidence and the large amount of greenhouse gases that are released as a result. It is an example of concrete solutions that should lead to new, future-proof and economically viable forms of land use. Pilots are underway in the Rotterdam-Dordrecht region with tidal parks, in which hard banks have been replaced by gradually sloping green banks. The influence of ebb and flow returns, which contributes to biodiversity. Another focus is the increase of greenery in the city, which increases the quality of life and reduces heat stress on hot days. They are all examples of natural solutions for concrete challenges that can really make a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
