Projectmanager Sonja Ouwerkerk en haar team vertellen het in deze korte film.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aanpak<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Het ontwerp bestaat uit een zachte ondiepe vooroever (strand) met verschillende soorten duinhabitats. Deze gekoppelde habitats zorgen voor bescherming tegen hoog water \u00e9n voor ruimtelijke kwaliteit in de vorm van natuur- en recreatiegebied. Het project biedt een unieke kans om op grote schaal het realiseren van natuurdoelen met zandige oplossingen te bestuderen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecoshape.org\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/07\/hondsbossche-en-pettemer-zeewering-6.png\" alt=\"Hondsbossche en Pettemer Zeewering 4\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Onderzoek<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Onderzoek gebeurt op drie thema&#8217;s<br>\n1.\tbetere voorspelbaarheid van de ontwikkeling van aangelegde habitats;<br>\n2.\toptimalisatie van het ontwerp;<br>\n3.\tbeleving van bezoekers.\nAllereerst onderzoeken we de ontwikkeling van de vegetatie en het ecosysteem. Ontwikkelen de habitats zich zoals verwacht? Vervullen ze ook de verwachte rol in duinontwikkeling? Ten tweede kijken we naar de benodigde hoeveelheid zand. De hoeveelheid zand die nodig is voor een duurzame versterking verschilt per omgeving, omdat deze wordt bepaald door lokale hydraulische belasting, zoals waterstand, golven en stroming. Hierbij onderzoeken we wat de invloed is van variaties in het ontwerp zoals helling, hoogte en lengte van het voorland. Ook onderzoeken we welke  types vegetatie daar voorkomen. Ten derde onderzoeken we hoe verschillende bezoekers het gebied  waarderen.\nEen goed inzicht in deze thema\u2019s is nodig om een goede beslissing over versterkingen met zand te kunnen nemen. Tevens verbetert dit het inzicht in mogelijkheden voor het ontwerp, beheer en onderhoud van deze versterkingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resultaten<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>De resultaten van het onderzoeksprogramma naar de Hondsbossche en Pettemer Zeewering leveren nieuwe kennis op over meerwaarde en financiele voordelen van  versterkingen met zand, ten opzichte van &#8216;harde&#8217; versterkingen. \nSamen met het onderzoek naar de Zandmotor levert dit ook een bijdrage aan een beter fundamenteel inzicht in de werking van vooroevers van zand langs de kust. Hiervoor koppelen we de monitoring van de Hondsbossche en Pettemer Zeewering ook aan lopende wetenschappelijke onderzoeksprojecten naar versterkingen met zand, zoals BE SAFE (NWO-Building with Nature en NatureCoast (STW-Perspectief).<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"downloads-block_5edf7952f4ecc\" class=\"block-downloads-inner \">\n            <h2>Rapporten<\/h2>\n    \n            <p>De kennisproducten delen we actief.
