Dit kwelderlandschap is onderdeel van het plan Marconi Buitendijks en is de komende drie jaar een proeftuin. Onderzoekers testen hier in verschillende proefvakken wat de beste manier is om kwelders met bijbehorende natuur te ontwikkelen. Het project is onderdeel van Programma Eems-Dollard 2050 en komt tot stand door een samenwerking tussen de gemeente Delfzijl en kennisconsortium EcoShape. Het Waddenfonds is medefinancier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecoshape.org\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/04\/monitoring-kwelders-marconi-delfzijl-in-volle-gang.jpg\" alt=\"Monitoring kwelders Marconi Delfzijl in volle gang\"\/><figcaption><strong>Fotocredits: Wageningen Marine Research <\/strong><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tot eind 2020 monitoren we de kwelderontwikkeling en analyseren we de morfologische en ecologische ontwikkeling, om te kunnen adviseren over wat de beste uitgangssituatie is voor kwelderaanleg. Kwelders zijn waardevolle natuurgebieden en beperken de ernst van de effecten van bodemdaling en zeespiegelstijging. De kennis die de onderzoekers ontwikkelen is toepasbaar op andere plekken in binnen- en buitenland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de experimenten vari\u00ebren we met verschillende zand-slib verhoudingen van de bodem en het wel of niet inzaaien van de kwelders met zeekraalzaad. De experimenten gebeuren niet op een gebruikelijke schaal van proefvakken van 2m2, maar in drie aangelegde proefvakken van maar liefst 9.000 m2 groot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecoshape.org\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/04\/monitoring-kwelders-marconi-delfzijl-in-volle-gang-2.jpg\" alt=\"Monitoring kwelders Marconi Delfzijl in volle gang 1\"\/><figcaption><strong>Fotocredits: Wageningen Marine Research <\/strong><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In ieder kweldervak zijn sedimentatie-erosie balken geplaatst om de opslibbing te meten. Ook zijn bodemmonsters genomen en hoogtes ingemeten. Om de ontwikkeling te volgen, herhalen we deze metingen regelmatig. In mei 2019 zaaien we een deel van de proefvakken in met zeekraal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gemeente Delfzijl wil de ecologische kwaliteiten van haar kustgebied verbeteren, en tegelijkertijd de leefbaarheid en aantrekkelijkheid vergroten.
