A great start to the week of the SWA Coastal Protection Chapter OST!

On Monday, EcoShape had the pleasure of hosting part of the Singapore Water Association (SWA) Coastal Protection chapter overseas study trip to the Netherlands, focused on bringing together governmental bodies and Singapore-based companies working on coastal protection and adaptation.

Following a morning at Deltares, we welcomed the group for an afternoon exploring two inspiring examples of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) along the Dutch coast: the Sand Motor and Dijk-in-Duin in Scheveningen.

Together with partners and local representatives, we discussed how large-scale NBS can deliver multiple benefits, from flood safety and ecology to recreation, and how these lessons might translate to Singapore.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the programme, including the organizing committee, and our speakers and hosts: Jack Amesz (Gemeente Den Haag), Tom Wilms (Witteveen+Bos/EcoShape), and Erik van Eekelen (EcoShape/Van Oord). Also mentioning Joris de Vos (Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland) for his contributions to the content.

We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation this week and exploring opportunities for future collaboration between Singapore and the Netherlands on Building with Nature approaches.
