EcoShape, together with Witteveen+Bos and Haskoning, is proud to have supported the Directorate of Port Works (DOP) of Chile in developing a Plan of Approach for the sustainable management of the Queule estuary.
This assignment – financed by the Partners for Water programme of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chile – aimed to explore Nature-Based Solutions to address sedimentation challenges at the river mouth, which affect the wetland system, biodiversity and local fishermen’s access to the sea. The work was carried out in four phases – from system understanding to a jointly developed roadmap for action – for the sustainable management of the Queule River mouth.
With this Plan, new opportunities open up for climate-resilient, sustainable estuary management, balancing ecological health with community needs.
Thanks to our partners: Directorate of Port Works (DOP) of Chile, The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), Embassy of the Netherlands in Chile, Witteveen+Bos, and Haskoning.
