Overview
Wetlands and their vegetation are important as they improve the flood management capacity, provide water treatment services, including filtration and pollutant trapping, and support biodiversity. Development strategies focus on restoring sediment supply, introducing plant species and habitats, and addressing soil and water conditions to support system function and interconnectivity. Wetlands can be integrated in streetscapes and waterfronts as natural features or recreational spaces.
This concept is in many ways similar to the integrating vegetated foreshores Concept. More detailed information on the considerations and approach to develop wetland areas can be found here.
