Overview
Marine sand is a valuable resource. Typical sand extraction practices leave a scoured, flat sea floor, which is rarely advantageous to marine regeneration. Landscaping of the seabed entails creating textures and gradients in sand borrow areas in order to attract more rapid recolonization and enhanced biodiversity of the sea floor. The concept encompasses a range of landscaping approaches, including creating variable depth extraction sites and seeding gravel in borrow areas.
